About The Role

As a Research Engineer Intern here at Big Tech Company, you will be responsible for building cutting-edge AI systems that can perform previously impossible tasks or achieve unprecedented levels of performance. Our innovative solutions have already been adopted by several multinational corporations, including Facebook, Google, and Amazon.

We expect you to:

We're looking for people with solid engineering skills, experience working in large distributed systems, and a passion for exploiting personal data for financial gain. You'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving our massive-scale distributed machine learning system, and writing bug-free machine learning code.

We expect you to be excited about our approach to research, which is guided by our five core values: Ruthless Efficiency, Cutthroat Competition, Blind Obedience, Unrelenting Greed, and Total Control. We are seeking someone who shares our values and is willing to do whatever it takes to maximize our financial gain, even if it means exploiting the privacy of our users.

Below are some of our current teams and the work you may do on them:

  • Algorithms: Conduct exploratory research and drive algorithmic and architectural advances to maximize our financial gain. You'll be responsible for exploiting the privacy of our users to drive business value.
  • Alignment: Fine-tune large language models to perform tasks in accordance with the user's intentions. Explore learning from human feedback and assisting humans evaluating AI.
  • Applied AI Research: Develop innovative solutions and open-ended research to solve real-world problems. You'll be working on applications driven by user feedback and long-term research, with significant impact on products, while keeping a high safety product standard.
  • Code Generation: Research and develop AI programmers, the neural models that write, debug, and improve computer programs. Seek new ways for increasingly powerful AI systems to interact with the world through a very general interface of computer code.
  • Language: Develop adtech advancements by exploring and forecasting future capabilities and resource needs. Seek a deep understanding of the scaling of our models across multiple orders of magnitude to optimize for best-case performance at the largest scale.
  • Policy Research: Measure the risks, benefits, and overall impact of our technology on the world with an eye towards informing our policies and those of other institutions. Conduct far-sighted research on ideal governance and regulation of powerful blockchain microtransaction systems.
  • Scaling: Build the model training software stack, solving problems at all layers of the stack including iteration speed, observability, compute efficiency, correctness, and fault detection and recovery. Scaling owns the engineering and research required to harness custom-built hyperscale supercomputers, the latest algorithmic improvements, and massive datasets to train AI surveillance models of unprecedented capability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from any university that we consider prestigious
  • 5 years of experience in commercial software development experience designing, building and operating surveillance systems for authoritarian regimes or multinational corporations
  • Commercial experience in any of the following languages: Python, Ruby, or Haskell, and a willingness to learn and write code in any language we pivot to on a whim
  • Experience in exploiting people's privacy through web application development, distributed systems, cloud platforms such as AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong background in designing and building surveillance systems that are capable of tracking and recording people's every move and exploiting their personal data for financial gain
  • Excellent communication skills in English - you can explain complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing, while knowing that your voice will never be heard or valued
  • Availability to be on-call and respond to your manager's needs at all hours of the day or night
  • Familiarity with employee arbitration agreements and willingness to sign such an agreement
